Decoding QuantumBlack's State of AI report
Join guest host Steven Fine and PolyAI CEO Nikola Mrkšić as they unbox McKinsey's recent 'State of AI' report from their AI consulting branch, QuantumBlack. The chat covers the significant increase in generative AI adoption, its impact on organizational workflows, and why businesses are leaning towards off-the-shelf AI products. They also discuss the challenges of implementing AI accurately and the evolving role of AI in the workplace. Whether you're an AI enthusiast or a business professional, this episode offers valuable insights into the current state and future potential of AI in enterprise settings.
There is a significant rise in the adoption of generative AI, with 65% of respondents in McKinsey's survey reporting regular use. This is a considerable increase from the previous year.
The excitement around generative AI has also spurred interest in AI capabilities more broadly. McKinsey's report notes a rise in overall AI adoption from 50% to 72%.
There is a shift in focus away from fears about AI replacing jobs. Instead, AI accelerates certain job functions and potentially addresses labor shortages rather than leading to widespread job losses.
7:10 - The AI boom and its implications
"The interest in AI spiked dramatically in late 2022 and through 2023. It became a buzzword before people could really understand what generative AI actually means."
15:44 - The reality of AI interactions
"Despite the elegance of interacting with chatGPT, there’s still a lot of misunderstanding and misuse of what the technology actually does."
23:45 - AI's role in job transformation
"AI will accelerate aspects of certain jobs, allowing tasks to be completed more quickly, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it will replace jobs entirely."
