Software Engineer – Technical Project Manager Track

PolyAI is tackling the challenges of automating customer service through voice. Our voice assistants make it possible for businesses to deliver outstanding customer service at every touchpoint, without over-investing.This is voice-enabled, AI-driven customer service that works in the real-world, right now.

As part of the project team, you will take a lead role in developing real-world systems for our customers that take 1000s of calls every single day. You will work closely with Product Managers and Dialogue Designers to build out and maintain highly specialised software that delights our clients and their customers. Starting as a Software Engineer, you will be involved in several bot build-ups. Moving ahead, this role offers an opportunity for you to transition to a career as a Technical Project Manager, where you will be responsible for managing projects to ensure the proposed plan abides by the timeline, budget, and scope.


As a software engineer, your responsibility will involve:

  • Contributing to our conversational AI systems – building new projects as well as maintaining existing ones.
  • Taking a major role in our software development through writing Python code, tests, as well as contributing to design ideas, documents and performing code reviews.
  • Interacting with Product Managers and Dialogue Designers to produce a great conversational UX.
  • Communicating with client tech teams on API & telephony integrations.

Transitioning to a technical project manager, your responsibility will involve:

  • Planning and managing project development stages (e.g. new build, maintenance, improvement, scale-up).
  • Acting as the main channel of communication which involves Product Solution Managers, Software Engineers, Dialogue Designers, and other stakeholders in the company.
  • Collaborating with other technical project managers on resource planning and team building.
  • Evaluating project performance metrics and facilitating improvements to meet the best industry standards.
  • Documenting processes and ensuring compliance with industry standards.


Minimum Requirements:

  • BS degree in Engineering / Science or a related technical field involving coding, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience with agile project management, such as scrum, kanban, post-mortems etc.
  • 2+ years of commercial software engineering, deployment, and integration.
  • Experience with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, and software design.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Python or Go.
  • Working proficiency in verbal and written English.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in technical project management, preferably in a related industry.
  • Knowledge of REST API environments, Git and SQL.
  • Willing to get hands-on solving problems to help the team and project move forward.
  • A proactive collaborator with experience in interacting with different teams of varying complexity.
  • Permission to work in the UK.
