Software Engineer – Customer Projects

PolyAI is tackling the challenges of automating customer service through voice. Our voice assistants make it possible for businesses to deliver outstanding customer service at every touchpoint.

This is voice-enabled, AI-driven customer service that works in the real world, right now.

As part of the project team, you will take a lead role in developing real-world systems for our customers that take 1000s of calls every single day. You will work closely with Product Managers and Dialogue Designers to build out and maintain highly specialised software that delights our clients and their customers.


Your responsibilities will involve:

    • Contributing to our conversational AI systems – building new projects as well as maintaining existing ones.
    • Taking a major role in our software development through writing Python code, tests, as well as contributing to design ideas, documents and performing code reviews.
    • Interacting with Product Managers and Dialogue Designers to produce a great conversational UX.
    • Communicating with client tech teams on API & telephony integrations.

Minimum Requirements:

    • BS degree in a technical field involving coding, or equivalent industry experience.
    • 1+ year(s) of commercial Python / C++ / Java experience, or equivalent.
    • You are a fast learner.

Preferred Requirements:

      • Understanding of the software deployment cycle, including local deployments, testing, code reviews etc.
      • Knowledge of REST API environments, Git and SQL.
      • Experience with algorithms, data structures, databases, and software design.
      • Permission to work in the UK.

Our interview process:

    • An initial phone call (30 minutes) with the hiring manager
    • A take-home coding problem
    • A virtual on-site consisting of 3 rounds (45 minutes each). This comprises 2 technical interviews with SWEs and a behavioural interview with CTO. One technical interview will be a short algorithmic problem to assess your overall technical capabilities and communication skills. The other interview will run through a sample policy design and assess your intuition for building voice-based systems.
